It is important for men to produce the hormone testosterone and to have a normal testosterone level. This hormone helps with the development of their male characteristics such as their muscle strength, body and facial hair, and their deep voice. Male testosterone is also essential because men need it to be able to produce sperm and for the development of their penis and testes. As men age, it is normal to have a decrease in their testosterone level which may lead to erectile dysfunction and a reduced desire for sex. It is common among young men to produce the most testosterone at the age of 17; they produce it in their testicles.

SIGNS OF SYMPTOMS OF LOW TESTOSTERONE LEVEL

Men with low testosterone levels may not be able to experience development in their facial and body hair. It can also affect their voice as it may not deepen normally as well as their genitals which may not enlarge. Since male testosterones are important, how will men know if they have a low testosterone level or a low T level? Doctors can perform a blood test to the patient to know if the person has a high, normal, or low testosterone level. Below are the signs and symptoms of low testosterone in males.

How to Know if You Need Testosterone Boosters Low sex drive

Testosterones also play a part in the libido of men. Although it is normal for men to have a decrease in their sex drives as they age, if the cause is for having a low testosterone level, they will notice the significant change because they will experience a drastic drop in their sex drive which is noticeable.

Erection problems

If a man’s sex drive is affected and decreased, it may be hard for them to have an erection especially because they won’t feel any stimulation during sexual activity. A man may also have difficulty with gaining an erection due to erectile dysfunction, which is also sometimes caused by a low testosterone level.  Other health problems can also cause erectile problems such as diabetes, stress, anxiety, depression, alcohol abuse, nicotine, etc.

Reduced sperm count and semen

Since testosterone plays a role in the production of sperm, a low testosterone level will affect the sperm count. The volume of the semen during the ejaculation of the man may decrease as well and may cause infertility.

Hair loss

Testosterone also helps in the development of the body and facial hair of men. If a man has a low T level, the hair production is affected, and they may have less beard growth.

Fatigue and sleeping problems

A man with low testosterone level will not only experience a decrease in their energy level, but also a change in their sleeping patterns as well. It can even cause insomnia and make the person feel tired all the time despite getting an adequate amount of sleep. They will either find it hard to fall asleep or stay asleep. Other men who have a low T level have sleep apnea; a severe medical condition where the breathing of the person stops and starts repeatedly and puts the person at risk for health complications such as stroke.

Reduced muscle mass

As mentioned earlier, testosterone also helps with the development of the muscle mass of the person. So, men with low T levels will experience a decrease in their muscle mass but will not affect the function and strength of the muscle.

Reduced bone mass

The male testosterone helps in producing bone tissue and maintaining bone volume. Having low T levels can reduce bone volume; making the person be at risk for bone fractures.

Reduced testicle size

Testosterone plays a role in the development of the penis and testicles. A low testosterone level can result in smaller testicle size and the scrotum may feel softer than usual as well.

Mood swings

Men with low T levels may experience changes in their mood and emotion such as irritability, lack of self-esteem, and lack of focus. They may also suffer from depression and forgetfulness.

Increased body fat

A man with low T levels may have increased body fat. They might become overweight or obese if their testosterone level remained low.

penile problemsWHEN DO YOU NEED TESTOSTERONE TREATMENT?

If you feel like you have a problem with your testosterone level and any of these symptoms are like what you are feeling, then don’t take any medications yet as these signs may be caused by other health conditions. It is better to have a doctor diagnose and perform a blood test on you first so they can examine whether you have low T levels or it is another health condition that causes whatever symptom you are feeling right now. The testosterone levels are highest in the morning so it might be a good idea to have your testosterone level measured during that time. Having your testosterone level measured twice is a better option to avoid any mistakes.

WHEN DON’T YOU NEED TESTOSTERONE TREATMENT?

Once the results are released and the doctor say that the symptoms you are feeling aren’t caused by low testosterone levels, then it is unnecessary to do testosterone treatment. If the doctor also tells you that you have a normal testosterone count, then it is better to ask them what is the cause of the symptoms you are feeling so you can focus on treating it as there are a lot of health conditions that can cause those signs, not only a low T level.

CONCLUSION

Seeking advice from a professional is always the better thing to do instead of self-diagnosing. It is alright to search up symptoms that may relate to what you’re feeling but remember not to self-diagnose as it may only worsen the situation by making you nervous. However, if it is confirmed that you have a low testosterone level, then it is better to have it treated. Having a low testosterone level won’t kill you, but it may cause cardiovascular diseases which may become fatal.
